Snubbers are devices that people place upon their heads and that have the capacity to electromagnetically stimulate their brains, allowing them to immerse themselves in virtual realities. In the human world, it is a very common device – since most of people live in virtual realities –, but in the omniship they can only be found in Room 0554 and they have only one run.
"Runs" are the names of the "games", or virtual reality experiences. The snubbers by themselves are powerful computers and can execute complex realities. However, if the user want more advanced experiences, like an entire universe, he will have to transfer his consciousness to datacenters and enter the run from there. In this case, the snubbers act as conveyors.
**How do they work?** Snubbers work by a process called Deep Brain Electrical Emulation – DBEE. Snubbers interact with the brain wirelessly, but they are very sensitive to being moved over the head. The simulation will stop immediately if they are moved even a few centimeters over the head. To prevent this, they attach themselves to the head of the user tightly once turned on and will only soften their grip only if no simulation is running.
